1)      Penguins can only be found in the Southern Hemisphere especially in Antarctica. Although Penguins are birds they can’t fly. They can swim very well.

2)      You might think all penguins are the same, black and white, big and waddling- but there are actually many kinds of penguins including Emperor Penguins, Adelie Penguins, Gentoo Penguins. The largest is the Emperor Penguin which is the size of an average third or fourth grader- weighing about 75 lbs and almost 4 feet tall. Are you bigger or smaller than an Emperor Penguin?

3)      While the female or mommy emperor penguin lays an egg, it is the male or daddy penguin that keeps is safe and warm till it hatches while the mommy penguin goes out to the ocean to look for food. Penguins eat fish and krill

4)      The Mommy penguin eats a whole bunch of food, stores it all in her stomach and comes back home. Now you might think throwing up or puking is gross but guess what, the mommy penguin actually regurgitates or throws up the food she ate and feeds the new born chick that food.

5)      Another kind of penguin is the Adelie penguin which is smaller than most toddlers. They are about 21/2 feet tall and weighs about 10-12 lbs. They are great walkers and walk for miles. They also make their nests with stones.
